Summary: Under general supervision, performs facility and equipment inspections for compliance with internal policies, procedures, state and federal regulations. Lab-packs chemical waste and transports waste from departments to Accumulation Area. Assists with scheduled inspections for storm water compliance hazardous waste management compliance, lab safety, general safety, and SPCC Plan (Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan).
Conducts routine/scheduled inspections for SPCC, Hazardous Waste Accumulation Areas, Waste Satellite Areas, Waste Water Discharge Monitoring, Laboratory Safety, and General Occupational Safety.
Assists with collection of data for report generation for Air Emissions, EPCRA, CERCLA, Biennial Waste Generation, Waste Minimization, and Monitoring and Measurement Reports for EMS.
Handles hazardous waste material from Satellite Areas to Accumulation Area for University.
Assists with lab-packing chemical waste for proper disposal. Consolidates waste before removing to Accumulation Areas.
Conducts air flow inspections, environmental impacts assessments, and laboratory audits for individual departments.
Routinely reviews environmental regulations for compliance updates.
Coordinates and conducts environmental and safety equipment inspections.
Assists Confined Space Entries with air monitoring clearance.
Develops and assists with Facilities and Campus Services Work Orders relative to Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) for WFU campus.
Maintains Rescue Equipment Calibration and Inventory.
Provides training for University Rescue Team for Confirmed Space and is the Team Captain.
Assists departments with Chemical Inventory and Storage.
Manages the University Severe Weather Policy and Crisis Management Plan.
Attends University committees as a member.
Solves problems associated with monitoring University EHS practices; recommends correction action where appropriate.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree with three to five of related experience with EHS regulations and best management practices.
40 hours of HAZWOPER training and certification completed and maintained.
Continuing education for confined space entry and rescue, laboratory safety, and fall protection must be current and maintained.
Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to lead and train the University Confined Space Rescue Team.
Team player attitude and willing to help others to meet personal, department, and University goals.
Self-starter with best management practices pertaining to enhancing Environmental and Safety Compliance Initiatives.
Demonstrated knowledge of applicable environmental and safety regulations and guidelines established by federal, state, and local governing authorities such as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), and DOT (Department of Transportation).
Experience with Storm Water Management Regulations and Hazardous Waste Management.
Must be analytical and efficient with maintaining hazardous waste inventory, inspection records for SPCC Plan, Asbestos Management Plan, Chemical Inventories Requirements governed by OSHA & EPA, and Waste Minimization Plan.
Ability to inspect operations at the University for environmental and safety compliance and assist with corrective action.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and in writing, with internal and external customers.
Ability to maintain sensitive information confidential.
Is subject to recall after hours in the event of campus emergencies, disasters, or other special needs as directed by management.
Experience and / or training with conducting safety and environmental inspections.
Ability to multitask between scheduled events and daily interruptions.
Lead and train the University Confined Space Rescue Team.
Maintain equipment for confined space rescue and air monitoring.
Responsible for University issued procurement card for travel, training, and confined space equipment needs.
Conduct and record regulatory required inspections within the University EMS (Environmental Management System).
