Campus Engineering & Operations has an outstanding opportunity for an HVAC Control Technician to perform journey-level work in the operation, inspection, testing, servicing and maintenance of mechanical, pneumatic, electronic and direct digital controls (DDC) for heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) of the complex building systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve operation and maintenance problems of complex building environmental control systems that are both pneumatic and DDC.
Install, modify, diagnose, test, repair, calibrate and operate a variety of mechanical, pneumatic, electrical and electronic equipment in HVAC systems
Perform alteration, repair, and maintenance of buildings, facilities, and equipment.
Suggest operation strategies for campus HVAC systems to ensure continuous and reliable service.
Respond to emergency situations such as HVAC outages in order to minimize or prevent loss of property, damage to research activities, and disruption to life-safety systems.
Perform the work in accordance with applicable safety rules and environmental regulatory requirements and maintain records as required according to environmental requirements.
Work with other trades to troubleshoot and repair system failures related to all aspects of the HVAC equipment and systems.
Work with the preventive maintenance program on equipment, components, and systems. Assist with record keeping for the preventive maintenance program of the environmental control systems.
Maintain and update system schematics through red line system changes and create if necessary, mechanical, pneumatic, and DDC system schematics.
Participate in and follow through with CEO process improvement initiatives (Balanced Scorecard, Lean, Ideas Systems).
Comply with occupational health and safety regulations that apply to work actions and conduct on the job, including the use of personal protective equipment whenever required; report safety infractions to the supervisor.
Work with Campus Engineering, Capital Projects Office, contractors, Facilities Services trades, building occupants, and other clients as necessary for scheduled and planned required work.
Operate a variety of hand and power tools.
Operate vehicles such as University vans and trucks to transport tools and equipment to various worksites.

Completion of an approved vocational or trade school course as a control technician and two years of field experience as an HVAC control technician, or equivalent trade skill. Equivalent education/experience may substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as license/certification/registration. Experience working with complex building environmental control systems, a wide variety of systems, and in the repair, service, maintenance, and operations of equipment, components, and systems. Ability to read and interpret blue prints related to building HVAC systems. Have possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license recognized by the State of Washington and have a good driving record. Must be strong team player and must be able to work independently and as a team member. Possess excellent skills in building a working crew harmony Must possess excellent customer service, written and oral communication skills. Must be able to communicate appropriately with clients, staff and students to present a professional image. Must be conversant with at least one of the following DDC control systems: Johnson Controls Metasys (PMI or ADS/ADX), Siemens Apogee, Alerton (IBEX or BACtalk). Experience in basic desktop computer skills, maintenance work request and work order programs.
