Job Requisition Number: 24275. Parking & Transportation (P&T) issues all parking permits, (averaging 30,000 per year) for parking lots controlled by the University of California, Berkeley. The Field Operations Unit is responsible for the enforcement and maintenance of all parking areas. Enforcement of parking rules and regulations is in accordance with the California Vehicle code (CVC) and the Berkeley campus parking guidelines: on a seven day per week 24-hour operation basis. P&T is responsible for the control of approximately 6,000 parking spaces with an annual revenue of $5.0 million from the sale of annual and daily parking permits and the issuance of approximately $5,000 parking citations. In addition, Parking & Transportation provides permits and staffing for campus entry gates and special events.
Under the direction of the Building Maintenance Supervisor, the Building Maintenance Worker is responsible for reporting, repairing, and monitoring safety-related equipment problems within P & T parking lots, structures, and buildings. The incumbent performs routine maintenance and repair of all mechanical and electronic equipment in the department which includes manual and electronic ticket machines and meters. This position is also responsible for monitoring, correcting or requesting repairs of non- emergency problems. Related duties include replacing light bulbs, replacing and repairing meters, producing signs, both permanent and temporary using computer generated equipment, installation and removal of parking access signs, and inspection and removal of debris from parking lots to reduce potential hazards.
PARKING CONTROL UNITS •Responsible for performing the daily collection of moneys from electronic and manual ticket machines, ensuring revenue is transported to the University Central Cashiering Unit in a timely manner. •Record daily dispenser machine ticket numbers from parking control units and distribute to enforcement and citation appeals personnel to be used as referral numbers for citation issuance. •Responsible for performing collection of moneys from parking meters, ensuring revenue is transported to the University Central Cashiering Unit in a timely manner. •Respond to reports of broken or malfunctioning control equipment. •Perform routine and major maintenance on ticket machine equipment, i.e., System II and III electronic ticket machines, 301 manual ticket machines, and self-service electronic machines. •Service ticket machine equipment on a weekly basis to ensure accuracy of time and supply of dispenser parking tickets. •Track and inventory all machine and meter parts, supplies and equipment on a bi-monthly basis. Request supplies as appropriate. •In conjunction with the Building Maintenance Supervisor, maintain an adequate inventory of machine parts, supplies, and dispenser tickets. •Generate monthly reports on ticket machine and meter maintenance. •Perform monthly service on kiosk time clocks to ensure accuracy. •Coordinate, monitor and track work projects with Physical Plant Customer Service. •Under the direction of Assistant Field Operations Manager, orders and maintains parts and supplies specifically related to ticket machine equipment. •Perform touch-up painting on ticket machines in parking lots, and structures.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE RESPONSIBILITIES •Maintains current knowledge of department policies and procedures: proposes policy and procedural changes to improve the efficiency and methods of P&T/Field Operations services. •Report to the Building Maintenance Supervisor, and appropriate personnel, damaged emergency telephones and hazardous conditions affecting the maintenance and safety of parking areas. •Operates two-way radios using phonetic alpha and radio codes in accordance with FCC (Federal Communications Commission) regulatory guidelines. •Monitors radio calls from UCPD, parking enforcement, and administrative units in order to respond to problems and/or maintenance issues in the field. •Maintain the maintenance work areas in accordance with University and department safety standards. •Remove graffiti from garage areas and signs. •Conduct daily inspection of parking lots and structures, including removal of broken glass and debris. •Remove and install parking control signs at the entrance of parking facilities and reserved spaces, or wherever needed. •Remove and install barrier poles through campus due to deliveries and construction as assigned. •As assigned, contacts service vendors for cost analysis.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES •Assist field operations in conducting space inventory, distribution of parking information related to construction and traffic control posting for special events, (i.e., football, basketball, Cal Performances events, and concerts.) •Complete special event assignments in accordance with department policy and procedures; ensuring an accurate account of moneys collected. •Serve on department committees as assigned. •Assists with preparing and developing training materials for staff. •Assist with hiring and training of new employees. •Responds to campus emergency situations, such as earthquakes, fires, weather-related hazards, after normal hours, on weekends and holidays as required.•At least 2-3 years relevant building maintenance experience including methods, processes, and materials used in performing building maintenance work, parking control equipment and parking facility maintenance •Basic understanding and mechanical aptitude of maintenance practices, methods, procedures, roles, equipment, tools, and material sources for obtaining specialized materials and services, time required to perform work, and proper sequencing of the required steps in structuring and completing maintenance work and assigned projects •Knowledge of: buildings, systems, construction terminology; household appliances - trouble shooting, repair; parts and materials sources, vendors, including location of obscure or obsolete parts or materials •Knowledge and experience working with various hand and power tools and diagnostic equipment •Must be available to work a variable work schedule in a unit that is a seven-day-a-week, 24 hours- a-day operation •Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, by telephone, radio, and in writing with customers, supervisors, co-workers and the public •Must be able to work efficiently, expediently, and in a clean and organized manner and maintain records related to work orders assigned and completed •Knowledge and practical application of safe work practices •Ability to perform basic construction math, take accurate measurements, write materials lists •Ability to work safely at heights; able to gain access to work in small/tight areas and be able to gain access to work or maneuver around obstacles that requires stairs and ladders and to safely maneuver supplies and objects up to 50 lbs.; sets up and uses scaffolding and/or ladders to perform tasks above ground level •Ability to understand the University environment, its mission, and operational needs •Basic Computer skills in Microsoft office suite
