Our RADIATION ONCOLOGY department has an outstanding opportunity for a Part-time MEDICAL ASSISTANT. The individual in this position demonstrate service excellence standards in performing duties to assist healthcare professionals in the examination and treatment of patients including: preparing the patient and the environment for consultation/treatment; meeting the communication needs of patients and family; conducting basic diagnostic tests, including venipuncture for blood tests; providing patient care coordination, patient education and clerical/reception functions.
The MA must demonstrate competency in the following categories:
Is able to schedule patient appointments including new, follow-up, re-schedules, and cancellations.
Monitors and manages the flow of patients through the clinic
Documents appointment cancellations or other unusual activities as directed by the Intake Staff Supervisor
Provides general patient services; directions, parking garage validation, calling for transportation, etc.
Answers the telephone in a professional & courteous manner according to UWMC standards.
Correctly assess patient questions and needs and responds quickly and appropriately.
Triage calls to appropriate staff; obtain necessary information for the return call; initiate emergency procedure when necessary.
Performs direct patient care procedures according to level of education, certification, and agreed upon oncology care practices.
Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age.
Provides skilled assistance to providers performing patient care procedures in the clinic.
Responds appropriately to patients in physical distress or emergency situations.
Maintains designated levels of supplies in specified areas and assists in the general maintenance of the clinic.
Demonstrates the ability to be organized and effectively prioritize tasks to meet the needs of the clinic.
Accurately and thoroughly documents provision of patient care in a timely manner.
Maintains, completes and submits required clinic reports and audits in a timely manner.
Performs duties of PSR, office assistants or other support staff as required by clinic needs.
Performs other related duties as required.

Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants or the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA); OR High school graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience providing direct patient care in a health care setting OR equivalent education/experience.
