<p>Classification: Extension Educator<br />Working Title: Community Economics Educator <br />Program Area: Community Vitality (CV)/Community Economics (CE)<br />Office Location: UROC, Minneapolis, MN <br />Review will begin: April 9, 2018; open until filled</p><p>ABOUT THIS POSITION<br />Extension educators meet program area outcome and impact goals through education, outreach, and applied scholarship and by leveraging University of Minnesota resources for and with communities. Extension’s community economics educators create and use applied research to help communities make decisions that strengthen the vitality of their local economies. </p><p>This Extension Educator position will be based at the Urban Research and Outreach Engagement Center (UROC) and will collaborate with colleagues at UROC. The geographic focus of this Educator’s work will be North Minneapolis (especially the Minneapolis Promise Zone) with potential work in the rest of the Metro area. This Educator will be a member of a statewide program team that is located throughout the state of Minnesota and serves as a support group for all CE Educators. The educator reports to the Program Leader for Community Economics (CE) and will collaborate with other educator colleagues.</p><p>For information about specific community economics programs and initiatives, go to http://www.extension.umn.edu/community/community-economics/</p><p>RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS<br />Within the context of meeting the mission and priorities of Extension, Community Vitality, and Community Economics, the CE Educator will:</p><p>Conduct Outreach:<br />*Increase understanding of the environment of urban communities and the opportunities and constraints of development for the local, north Minneapolis economy within the larger metro and state economies.<br />*Work with local leaders to bring University resources to local questions about the economy.<br />*Develop and maintain effective local, regional, university and state partnerships that further the development and delivery of Extension educational programs.</p><p>Deliver Educational Programming:<br />*Engage communities and organizations in initiatives that achieve their goals; for example, retaining and expanding businesses, encouraging entrepreneurship, or examining the economic impact of investments or events.<br />* Design, deliver, market and evaluate educational and developmental programs based in scholarly/scientific theory and research appropriate for the audience that address local and/or regional needs. Examples of programs include but not limited to Business Retention and Expansion, Market Area Profiles, Retail Trade Analysis, and Economic Futures<br />*Facilitate meetings that support community-engaged discussions and decisions.<br />*Support implementation of action plans that support local community and economic development.</p><p>Enhance Scholarship:<br />*Use and conduct scholarly/scientific research in community economics and development as a scholar-practitioner with focus on how urban communities (including residents, businesses, and government) work together to improve the life of residents.</p><p>Administer Programs and Engage with Team Members:<br />*Assume program leadership, education and management roles as designated and appropriate.<br />*Collaborate with the Program Leader to establish, evaluate and report on annual work goals, activities, impacts and outcomes that align with program area priorities and demonstrate progress.<br />*Monitor and control budgets for local CE programs.<br />*In collaboration with Extension Center for Community Vitality leadership, secure funds and resources to support educational programs through fee for service, third party reimbursement, grants, and other means as outlined in the Community Economic program business plans and garner significant financial support and resources toward the continuation of this educator position.</p><p>BENEFITS/APPOINTMENT<br />*The Extension Educator position has an annual University academic professional appointment and Extension academic rank. <br />*The appointment is reviewed for renewal annually, with continuation dependent on performance, results, availability of funds, and program needs.<br />*The position carries Extension academic rank. Successful advancement in rank is expected and contingent on accomplishments as an Extension Educator as governed by Extension's promotion system policies and procedures.<br />*University of Minnesota appointment and benefits, including health and life insurance. <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS<br />Education:<br />*Master's degree at time of appointment. Formal education should include significant coursework in applied, community or regional economics; business; public policy; planning and/or administration; economics; community development; sociology; geography; and/or a closely related field.</p><p>Experience:<br />*No less than one (1) year of related professional experience post-bachelor's degree. Relevant settings for this experience might come from graduate work, adult education, Extension, state/regional/local government or development agencies, community or interest-based organizations and/or foundations.<br />*Work experience and/or academic background in community development, economic development, civic engagement, facilitation, data analysis, program leadership or related area. <br />*Professional experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues, partners and stakeholders.</p><p>Skills/Abilities:<br />*Evidence of understanding urban needs and issues, preferably in the Twin Cities area.<br />*Evidence of skills and ability to utilize economic development research in educational program design, delivery and evaluation.<br />*Evidence of excellent written and oral communication skills.<br />*Evidence of ability to use technology for communications, information gathering, program delivery and reporting.</p><p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS<br />*Demonstrated success in working with individuals, organizations and communities with a variety of cultural, ethnic, language and/or literacy backgrounds.<br />*Multiple years of related professional experience post-bachelor's degree. Relevant settings for this experience might come from graduate work, adult education, Extension, state/regional/local government or development agencies, community or interest-based organizations and/or foundations.<br />*Experience in the development of curriculum or adult education materials, adult pedagogy, popular education or similar areas in an adult, non-credit educational environment.<br />*Knowledge and experience in the use of current internet technologies as related to community economics or development to achieve educational goals and community impacts. For instance, developing and sharing educational videos, marketing events via social media, or soliciting consumer input via web surveys.<br />*A successful record of initiating, conducting, and applying research to inform community challenges and opportunities.<br />*Ability to implement and meet administrative responsibilities necessary for effective project, budget, grants and program management and implementation.<br />*Ability to seek out, analyze, and communicate new information, data, and approaches that would be of use to community and economic development decision makers.<br />*Demonstrated intermediate skills in quantitative, economic, and statistical analysis relevant to work in community economics.</p>
