For over fifty years, WorldChicago has been Chicago’s official host for government-sponsored international visitors. A nonprofit organization, WorldChicago coordinates professional, cultural, educational, and youth leadership exchange programs for 700-1,000 international emerging leaders from more than 130 countries every year, encouraging Chicagoans to become involved through professional and social hosting opportunities. WorldChicago seeks a full-time, dynamic self-starter who is enthusiastic about citizen diplomacy and cultural exchange to lead our International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) programming. This role is a key team member responsible for communicating with many sectors of the Chicago community to develop strong programs that welcome emerging leaders from around the world to the Windy City.
The responsibilities of the IVLP Program Officer include:
Manage all aspects of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in Chicago
Supervise and oversee all phases of proposing, planning, developing, and implementing the programming for IVLP individuals and groups
Solicit IVLP delegations from the Department of State and national program agencies through established proposal processes
Foster WorldChicago’s portfolio of professional resources through outreach and engagement
Develop and continuously update database of professional resources
Manage IVLP records and statistics throughout the year and assist with Annual Report creation
Train and manage volunteer Program Assistants (interns)
Write grant for annual IVLP funding as well as relevant mid-year and final reports
Build and maintain good relations with national partners, including the U.S. Department of State, Global Ties USA, and national program agencies in D.C.
Promote fee-for-service programs to program agencies and government entities
Maintain and develop relationships with local hotels, transportation companies, and other Chicagoland area partners
Lead the hotel contract renewal process in the fall/winter of each year
Attend professional meetings whenever possible and appropriate
Keep staff aware of IVLP activities
Support all WorldChicago programs and events through program and event assistance when requested
Actively participate in fundraising for WorldChicago
Assist with event promotion and outreach
Participate in and help facilitate Young Professionals Committee events
Be a personal steward of the WorldChicago mission
The ideal candidate for this position has a strong interest in international affairs and cultural exchange as well as a bachelor’s degree and one to five years of professional experience. A strong writing background and good organizational and interpersonal skills are essential for this position. The ideal candidate is organized, meticulous, flexible, self-motivated, and comfortable working in a small team setting. This position will require some evening work.
