The Public Works department strives to be a best-in-class organization providing public services through planning, engineering, constructing, inspecting, operating, and maintaining Southlake’s public infrastructure. The City’s Transportation Division is the newest addition to our Public Works Department and consists of three members: a Transportation Manager, a Traffic Supervisor, and a Signal Technician. Southlake’s Transportation Division oversees the maintenance and management of eight traffic signals, all school crosswalk signals, and more than 5,000 street signs.
The Transportation Manager is appointed by and reports directly to the Director. This position is an integral part of Public Works and will play a critical role in improving mobility within the City. The purpose of this position is to manage and direct the functions and operations of the Transportation Division to improve safety and mobility within the City of Southlake. The ideal candidate will be a sophisticated, dynamic, self-confident, motivated, approachable, and proactive leader with a passion for traffic management. The candidate should have an executive presence and proven track record for “making things happen,” with illustrated tangible wins for his or her organization.
The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering or planning, with a specialization in transportation, public administration, or a related field; a master’s degree in transportation planning, transportation engineering, or a related field is preferred. Five (5) or more years of experience in systems engineering, traffic signal systems, transportation engineering, or other related field is required; two (2) or more years of intelligent transportation system (ITS) planning and implementation experience is preferred.
