Under supervision, the Clinical Research Coordinator will coordinate multiple government funded, investigator sponsored, and/or industry sponsored research studies involving human subjects that are being conducted in the Division of Pediatric and Adolescent Dermatology at Rady Children's Hospital. Conduct initiation, implementation and management of observational studies and experimental medication based clinical trials, with an emphasis on prevention and treatment of very early stage disease trials. Ensure compliance with goals and objectives of research protocols and with state and federal regulatory guidelines.
Duties include, but are not limited to: interpreting research protocols; recruiting subjects; screening for eligibility; monitoring and timely reporting of adverse events; toxicities and protocol deviations; scheduling subjects' visits; coordinating and conducting clinical, laboratory and data activities; collecting and entering research data; maintaining accurate and complete clinical research files, and making presentations at our case conference meetings. Act as liaison between Principal Investigators, sub-investigators, research and clinical staff members, the HRPP and study sponsors.
Many of our studies enroll persons of Hispanic ethnicity; either monolingual or bilingual Spanish speakers, which requires either bilingual skills, or working closely with a certified translator.
Theoretical knowledge generally acquired through a Bachelor's Degree in a biological life science or a relevant field such as public health, human biology, neurosciences, psychology or the social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and a minimum of two (2) years of experience.
Proven experience in the clinical research setting, including protocols, principles, standards and human subjects protection requirements. Experience in laboratory safety and handling/processing/packaging/shipping of laboratory samples.
Experience with gathering, recording, transcribing and synthesizing clinical data while paying conscientious attention to details. Experience completing clinical trial forms via hard copy and/or online.
Demonstrated experience working with different clinical protocols concurrently.
Demonstrated familiarity with basic medical research principles and knowledge of medical terminology.
Knowledge and understanding of audit requirements involving interpreting regulations, guidelines, and compliance issues.
Experience interpreting laboratory values to determine subject's eligibility and potential toxicities and insight to know when abnormalities should be reported to a clinical nurse or Physician.
Proven ability to understand and interpret complex research protocols in order to screen patients for eligibility, initiate study plan, collect data, evaluated for adverse events and protocol deviations.
Demonstrated experience in interpreting medical charts and extracting accurate data from medical records
Strong computer skills and experience including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and database management and email.
A Bachelor's Degree.
Bilingual in both English and Spanish, functioning as an educated native speaker in both languages.
Demonstrated experience planning and performing clinical research studies.
Demonstrated clinical background or experience.
Current LVN license and graduation from an accredited school of Vocational Nursing.
Certification to perform phlebotomy. Knowledge of specimen collection standards, and competence to collect blood samples.
BART certification or agreement to attain within six (6) months of hire.
IATA (International Air Transport Association) Certification for shipping of hazardous materials (can be obtained within 3 months of hire).

Must also be willing to travel to national or local study investigator meetings as needed.
