I. Summary: Chip Holt Nature Center Summer Program provides nature-based educational activities and programs for youth and their parent/guardian. The Chip Holt Nature Center Program Assistant will assist with program planning and delivery. The Chip Holt Nature Center Program Assistant will assist with daily set-up and clean up.
II. Duration Chip Holt Nature Center Summer Program includes one day of training on June 21 & 22, 2018; one day to clean and close-up the Summer Program on August 6th; and 6 weeks of programming from June 25th to August 3rd. Program runs daily Monday to Friday from 9 am to 12 pm.
III. Specific Responsibilities 100%
Assist Chip Holt Nature Center Program Coordinator with program implementation
Present programming that teaches youth and their parent/guardian about environmental science and natural resources
Actively engage and supervise program participants
Assist with program preparation and clean up
Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard
Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified
Appreciate and embrace diversity in all interactions with staff and the public
Minimum 2 years combined college education and experience in environmental education, natural resources management, biology, environmental studies, or related field
Mature personality with excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
Well organized and ability to coordinate multiple tasks
Proficient computer skills – Excel, Word, and Power Point
Demonstrate an interest in environmental work and understanding of program-related issues through education, volunteer work, and/or hobbies
Ability to work independently and responsibly with minimal supervision
Ability to meet acceptable background check standards
Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position
Ability to transport/move supplies and equipment with or without accommodation
Current certification for CPR and First Aid is preferred
Ability to clearly communicate and to read and write in Spanish is preferred
Experience in natural resource programming for youth is preferred
