The Role: A sought-after opportunity has arisen within Moody's Australian Public, Project & Infrastructure team for a senior analyst to assume lead coverage of public sector and infrastructure finance credits. This multifaceted and influential role will require the analyst to conduct rigorous and timely analysis to assess the credit quality of a variety of entities and debt instruments, ongoing monitoring to support rating accuracy, and to effectively manage internal and external relationships at senior levels. A central part of the role is writing topical and insightful research on issuers and sectors, and may include collaboration on regional research initiatives.
Responsibilities and Desired Experience: Analytics
Serve as lead analyst for a portfolio of regional and local governments and universities in Australia and New Zealand, as well as infrastructure credits, which could include regulated utilities, transport infrastructure and social infrastructure.
Conduct credit research, including analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, development of financial forecasts, review of policy documents, governing agreements and documents, and assessment of credit quality in a manner consistent with Moody's rating methodologies.
Possess a strong understanding of the local and regional government sector, including budgetary frameworks and commonwealth government inter-relationships, with knowledge of project finance and infrastructure sectors in Australia and New Zealand highly desired.
Well-developed presentation skills, with the lead analyst required to present credits in a clear, thoroughly-researched and articulate manner in rating committees and other internal analytical meetings
Research & Outreach
Author compelling entity specific and sector related research, including credit reports, sector reports; ability to balance research and outreach responsibilities with daily transaction and surveillance activity.
Effectively develop and manage high profile relationships with senior government and university officials, utility and infrastructure executives, investors, intermediaries and press/media; broad existing contacts in this area will be advantageous.
Persuasively present Moody's views on credits to market participants and other external stakeholders.
Participate in presentations at conferences, attend industry events, and participate in key stakeholder meetings to further raise the visibility and leadership of Moody's franchise in this sector throughout the region.
Participate in key strategic projects to support team effectiveness and success in the region.
Ability to form constructive working relationships with diverse staff located throughout region Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to junior staff in Sydney.
Public Project & Infrastructure Finance
Graduate degree or equivalent, preferably in Economics, International Relations, Finance, Business, or Public Administration with postgraduate qualifications strongly desired.
Substantial experience in public finance or relevant credit research experience is essential
A minimum of 10 or more years of relevant analytical experience preferably with a financial institution in a credit role.
Strong quantitative aptitude and demonstrated analytical ability, including advanced knowledge of MS Excel and financial/statistical research capabilities
Previous experience writing research in either an equity or credit market context would be highly advantageous.
Articulate and succinct communication skills both verbally and in writing with public speaking experience ideal.
Strong organizational skills with sound judgment.
Mature and balanced personality with ability to manage high level and often complex client relationships.
