Under the direction of the Associate Director of Data Analysis and Customer Systems at Parking & Transportation Services (P&TS), the Business Intelligence Analyst performs moderately complex project and analytical work in a wide range of analytics activities that ensure the uniformity, accuracy, and semantic consistency of parking and transportation data through the application of effective data management, security, stewardship, and governance processes. This analyst is responsible for the development of the new analytics solutions as well as supporting and maintaining the existing solutions.
Perform data analysis, design, and development of new and ongoing analytics tools involving moderately complex EDW structures OR on OLTP systems. Provide technical design, coding, testing, implementation, maintenance, system and technical support for analytics initiatives.
Develop and monitor ETL processes, system audits, dashboard reporting and presentation layer functioning and performance and pro-actively fix issues as found. Support the performance of systems.
Conduct and participate in code walkthroughs and document functional and technical design. Assist in Quality Control testing. Troubleshoot and solve technical problems
Follow the release cycles and implement on-time delivery of bug fixes, change requests and enhancements.
Perform assigned activities involving query and reporting, online analytical processing, data profiling, statistical analysis, forecasting, and data mining. Develop insightful analytics reports (KPIs, metrics, ad-hoc queries), dashboards, scorecards, continuous monitoring (thresholds), and ad hoc analyses. Clean and transform data as required to deliver actionable information. Generate reports and statistics for analysis of transportation programs and initiatives, and produce reports for management consideration and public reporting.
Collaborate with analysts, developers, end users, vendors, and management to ensure the creation and delivery of analytics solutions. Facilitate working sessions with users and management to identify and document requirements, current information flows, data models, reporting systems, user populations, and coordinate with current and future initiatives impacting reporting. Work with the planning and operations teams to analyze and forecast allocation, demand, and utilization of parking and transit resources.
Use reports and analyses to identify potentially problematic data, make corrections, and eliminate root cause for a range of complex data problems (e.g., input errors, data import errors or inadequate field edits), and recommend possible solutions and communicate their organizational impact.
Perform fit-gap analysis comparing existing reporting solutions with analytics strategy and assess compliance with best practices and established standards.
Participate in user acceptance testing of new analysis and reporting systems, upgrades, enhancements and change requests; plan, conduct and document results of testing.
Function as a supporting resource for P&TS business application systems:
Help develop, update and maintain scripts using Python, Perl, and SQL to integrate data among various systems: P&TS systems, University HR, Registry, Housing, Payroll systems, as well as flat files from Stanford Health Care and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Automate data integration processes to streamline and reduce support effort.
Help design and implement surveys, including the campus-wide annual commute survey; analyze and interpret survey data using statistical descriptions and modeling; and produce reports and summaries of survey results to aid in P&TS program development and policy decisions.
Help Perform geographic information system (GIS) analysis of customer data to support the development and marketing of alternative transportation programs.
Assist in researching technologies and products with analytics tools for P&TS. Assist in coordinating presentations and demonstration projects by potential vendors and service providers. Assist in coordinating proposal and bid solicitation processes, including the development of functional requirements, authoring of Request for Proposals document, evaluation of proposals, and negotiation with vendors.
Assist P&TS staff and perform other duties as required.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree combined with working experience that demonstrates the conceptual, analytical, applications management, and communication skills required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to understand and apply the software development lifecycle and project management techniques.
Demonstrated ability to review business processes and translate into analytics and system solutions.
Extensive experience in data analysis and root cause analysis and problem-solving and analytical thinking capabilities.
Analytical capabilities to slice and dice data and display data in reports for best user experience.
Demonstrate strong technical skills.
Strong programming skills, relational database skills with expertise in Advanced SQL.
Experience in data import/export/integration among different systems, data mapping, and data conversion.
Capable of programming in scripting languages (Python and Perl).
Extensive experience in Business Intelligence, dimensional modeling, star schema and data warehousing concepts and methodologies.
Experience in business intelligence tools such as Tableau or Microsoft BI
Extensive experience in ETL, presentation layer and reporting design strategies. Ability to build and support custom built ETL, auditing and scheduling programs.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, proficiency with the rest of the Microsoft Office suite.
Other desired but not required technical skills: GIS, Java, R, experience working with business applications and system configuration.
Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to produce clear, concise, and logical documents.
High degree of energy and initiative, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
High level of organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and develop creative and innovative solutions. Quick learner and willing to embrace new technologies and software programs.
Ability to coordinate multiple assignments and to manage a complex and often competing set of priorities in a high-pressure, results-oriented environment.
