The Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) unit of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences seeks adjunct faculty to teach in the areas of environmental and climate change policy. Positions are available for both classroom and online instructors. The Advanced Academic Programs division provides high-quality master's degrees and post-baccalaureate education to students in the mid-Atlantic region and online.Â AAP currently offers master's degrees and graduate certificate programs for graduate students at its Washington, DC Center as well as in Montgomery County and Baltimore, MD, and online.Â AAP enrolls more than 3000 part-time graduate students and is looking to aggressively grow its programs.
We invite applications to fill an opening for a non-tenure-track, adjunct teaching position.Â The adjunct faculty will teach one or more courses per year in the above topics in either an onsite, online or combined format.

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE and POLICY PROGRAM
International Environmental Policy
This course explores the methods and strategies for promoting solutions to global environmental problems. Through consideration of issues such as stratospheric ozone depletion, global climate change, tropical deforestation, loss of biodiversity, transnational pollution, and other threats to the international commons, students examine policymaking from the perspective of developed and developing countries, the United Nations system, international financial entities, and nongovernmental interest groups. By investigating important international agreements, students determine how far the international community has come in solving specific problems, what obstacles prevent effective international solutions, and what needs to be done to overcome barriers.
ENERGY POLICY and CLIMATE PROGRAM
Climate Change Policy Analysis
After a study of the historical development of climate change policy, this course analyzes current policy options for mitigating and adapting to long-term climate change. The course will examine various approaches available in the U.S. for national-level policy, including regulatory and market-based approaches, particularly cap and trade and carbon taxation. Various models for designing a cap and trade system will be studied, including the European experience and regional programs in the United States. Special attention will be paid to methods for setting initial prices and accounting for discounting of future benefits. The course will focus primarily on national-level carbon management policies, but international agreements will also be included, as well as equity considerations on a global level.
Cities and Climate Change
This course examines cities as the primary centers of energy demand; as major sources of greenhouse gases; as places most vulnerable to climate change impacts; and as logical focal points for mitigation and adaptation solutions. Local level government climate policy and financing options are also examined, including alternative energy production, resilient water systems, green buildings, energy efficient transport and sustainable infrastructure generally, local level offsets, and urban-based Clean Development Mechanisms. Analytical methods are introduced to understand current approaches to decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in a relevant field, with a master's degree being a minimum, but a Ph.D. preferred. Teaching experience, especially online and with professional students, and work experience within the relevant science fields are also desired.Â A successful candidate would ideally be able to begin teaching in January 2019. College-level teaching experience is required and a proven record of effective online teaching and familiarity with Blackboard (or a similar learning management system) are strong advantages.Â The applicant should also have the background to teach a wide variety of courses in the greater environment and climate policy fields.
