The Women and Health Initiative (W&HI), housed within the Department of Global Health and Population, is a school-wide program at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health founded in 2010. The W&HI draws on resources and expertise from across the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and broader Harvard community to develop interdisciplinary perspectives and innovative solutions to the challenges women face in the public health arena. The W&HI, led by Dr. Ana Langer, has a demonstrated track record in implementation research, technical collaboration, knowledge management, scientific convening, and consensus-building activities.
The W&HI has a portfolio of work related to ending preventable maternal mortality and morbidity worldwide. The Project Assistant will contribute to a new project whose overall aim is to improve measurement capacity for maternal health through development and validation of priority indicators to inform global standards, and support to countries for their adoption and use. The Project Assistant will be responsible for ensuring that the travel logistics, event planning, and communications needs are met for this project. This project will be led by Dr. Ana Langer and Dr. Rima Jolivet within the W&HI and carried out in partnership with the coalition of organizations that make up the Ending Preventable Maternal Mortality (EPMM) Working Group. The Project Assistant will work closely with Drs. Langer and Jolivet, a Senior Project Coordinator and the project steering committee on all activities over the life of the project and will report directly to Dr. Jolivet.
Under the direction of the PIs, the key duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide assistance with coordinating events hosted by the W&HI for the project including seminars, technical meetings, and webinars. The incumbent will be responsible for event planning and coordination activities including but not limited to booking space, placing catering orders, publicizing the event, and managing event registration
Develop, distribute, and manage meeting materials for the project events listed above (following training as needed).
Coordinate meetings and events, including compiling participant lists, drafting and sending invitations; tracking RSVPs; day-of coordination; distributing materials, timing presentations, taking notes and transcribing minutes
Manage travel arrangements for the W&HI faculty and staff as well as external participants traveling for project-related business. S/he will be the primary point of contact with the traveler, travel agency, and other vendors as needed
In collaboration with the GHP finance team, help to ensure smooth processing of project-related financial transactions including invoices, reimbursement, corporate card reconciliations. They will also support new vendor set-up when needed
Support a variety of communication and website-related tasks for the project, for example: writing and posting blogs and social media content; providing live social media coverage of events; creating web graphics, updating the project website, assisting with presentation preparations

Coordinate the dissemination of knowledge translation activities related to the project, working in close partnership with the project director and project partners
Answer and route phone calls, mail, and e-mail messages related to project activities and handle a wide range of information dissemination
Participate in weekly project-related meetings, monthly W&HI team meetings, and other project-related meetings as needed
Contribute to on-time sponsor reporting on the project
Other duties as assigned
The Project Assistant will maintain excellent tracking systems for all of the above functions and ensure compliance with University policies and/or government regulations. The ideal candidate will be experienced and resourceful with the capacity to collaborate with faculty, researchers and specialists from other institutions within the U.S., other developed and developing countries, and prominent figures in the field of global health.
