Department Summary Campus Planning and Facilities Management (CPFM) is a vibrant department, which comprises five units, and approximately 270 employees: Facilities Services, Utilities & Energy, Campus Planning, Office of Sustainability, and Design & Construction. The units of CPFM strive to provide excellent customer service to the University of Oregon campus and operate with the highest professional standards, communicating and collaborating with customers to support the stewardship of the campus.
Campus Planning guides the planning and design of campus to accommodate growth and change while preserving its heritage and enriching environments that support the university's mission of teaching, research and public service. Campus Planning offers services in campus planning, community and transportation planning, historic preservation, real estate management, and space planning.
Position Summary This position reports to the Director of the Campus Planning office in Campus Planning and Facilities Management and participates with department leadership and staff in strategic planning on aspects of campus space management, including developing goals and metrics for achieving space management objectives set by university leadership. This position advises university administration on issues related to space management; works closely with the Campus Planning Space Management Team to perform services related to space planning; conducts analytical studies related to campus-wide and unit level space use; and facilitates and coordinates general university or specific project planning efforts.
Responsibilities include analyzing and interpreting physical space data to create unifying processes required by university leadership and government agencies; establishing and implementing "best practice" standards for projecting space utilization and needs; serving as a key participant in Facilities and Administrative costing teams; and, researching, analyzing, organizing and directing analytical space studies including classroom utilization and departmental/college space use reports. This position also facilitates and coordinates space programming and space planning projects; and engages in general university or specific project planning efforts.
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL This unit provides essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.
Minimum Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Architecture, Interior Architecture, Public Administration, Industrial Engineering, or a related field: AND • Two years of professional experience in space management analysis such as space utilization studies, organizational analysis, or other related efficiency and research studies; OR space planning, architectural programming, planning, and design issues with public processes.
Professional Competencies • Demonstrates competence in physical planning, in particular space planning. • Demonstrates strong analytical skills and experience, including experience in generating reports, using spreadsheet applications, and reporting complex data and information in an organized and understandable manner. • Possesses strong written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills and the ability to work effectively with department and university staff, and non-university professionals. • Able to work with sensitive, confidential information in a discreet and ethical manner and in accordance with university policies and local, state, and federal laws. • Demonstrates strong organizational, time allocation, and project management skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks and assignments. • Demonstrates the ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide variety of community groups, internal and external stakeholders, and individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. • Performs duties in a way that advances and supports the mission of the department and university. • Takes initiative, looks for what needs to be done and does it. • Pays close attention to detail. • Maintains a respectful workplace and models a positive and proactive attitude.
Preferred Qualifications • Experience working with the functioning of a research university. • Experience and/or education that provides an understanding of university planning policy issues and processes, in particular as related to space use and programming. • Experience in architectural programming. • Experience with group facilitation.
